Supporting People Programme – statement from the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee
The Chair of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, Nick Ramsay AM, has issued the following statement in response to the Wales Audit Office report, ‘The Welsh Government’s Supporting People Programme’.
Mr Ramsay said:
“The Supporting People Programme delivers what are undoubtedly valuable services to vulnerable people in a range of different circumstances.
The Auditor General’s report describes how the arrangements for the design and delivery of the Programme have continued to develop in response to a number of reviews over the past seven years.
“However, the pace of progress is a concern and it is disappointing that the Welsh Government still does not have a good enough understanding of the Programme’s overall impact some fourteen years on from its initial launch.
“Weaknesses in performance management and evaluation were also highlighted by the Equality, Local Government and Communities Committee in its recent report on the Communities First programme, and the Public Accounts Committee will want to explore these aspects in more detail when it considers the Auditor General’s report in the autumn.”
